Chancellor Launches New Initiatives for Faculty & Staff
Chancellor Gaber is launching two new faculty and staff initiatives that will focus on ensuring the University remains a great place to work.
Breakfast with the Chancellor
These informal sessions will give Gaber an opportunity to hear what’s on the minds of UNC Charlotte faculty and staff, answer questions and discuss topics of interest with them. One session will be held each month from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. starting Thursday, January 26. There will be no formal agenda, and a complimentary breakfast will be provided to all participants. Faculty and staff who are interested in attending a session are asked to sign up through an online form. Additional dates for spring semester are February 27, March 20, and May 4.
Online Idea Form
The Office of the Chancellor also has launched an online form where faculty, staff and students can share ideas on how to make an existing process more efficient or how the University might improve an institutional policy or procedure. Suggestions will be shared with members of the Chancellor’s Cabinet for review and consideration.
Golden Nugget Award
Do you know a staff member who deserves a little extra gold in their sluice pan for going above and beyond the call of duty, and representing UNC Charlotte in a manner we can all be proud of? Give them a Golden Nugget for all their hard work. Golden Nugget Awards are certificates with the employee’s name and date of award. Supervisors are strongly encouraged to recognize their employees by presenting these awards during a team or department meeting.
Interlibrary Loan
Atkins Library will be closed December 23 through January 3, and the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system will not accept new requests during that time. The Library will reopen and begin processing ILL requests again on January 4, 2023.
Undergraduate Research Conference Registration Opens in January
Please save the date for UNC Charlotte’s Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) 2023, which will be held in the Popp Martin Student Union on Tuesday, April 25. The URC 2023 registration form will open on Monday, January 23, and close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24. Students are required to submit an abstract of their research project as part of the registration. More information.
Seeking Judges for Undergraduate Research Conference 2023
The Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) 2023 organizing committee is seeking faculty, staff, and doctoral students to serve as judges for the URC 2023. Those interested in this service opportunity should complete the URC 2023 Judges Recruitment Form to indicate their availability to judge posters and/or oral presentations at the URC 2023. Please complete the form by 500 p.m. on Friday, February 24. Thank you for your commitment to undergraduate research at UNC Charlotte!
Request for Research Proposals Involving Student-Athlete Welfare
The American Athletic Conference Academic Consortium is requesting research proposals for topics involving physical and/or non-physical student-athlete welfare (e.g., concussions, sleep, nutrition, mental health, socialization, diversity, etc.). These proposals must include a principal investigator from an American Athletic Conference (AAC) institution. It is highly encouraged that researchers from multiple schools in the AAC collaborate on submitted proposals. The grant amount maximizes at $15,000. Grants can be open ended, but should be designed to learn, promote and advocate for student-athletes. The deadline is January 27. Research proposals will be reviewed in the spring of 2023 and funding will be allocated soon thereafter. All funded research proposal findings will be presented at the annual American Athletic Conference Academic Consortium that will be held in the spring of 2024 at Southern Methodist University, and travel to this consortium will be funded out of the research budget. Work Pray Code: When Work Becomes Religion in Silicon Valley
The Department of Religious Studies presents its 38th Loy H. Witherspoon Lecture featuring Carolyn Chen, Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. The lecture, “Work Pray Code: When Work Becomes Religion in Silicon Valley,” reveals the findings of more than five years of in-depth interviews with Silicon Valley tech workers and examines how and why companies bring religious practices and ideas into work spaces and cultures. The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides instructional consultation and advising to individual faculty, faculty groups, or departments to address emerging teaching and learning needs around the university. Possible topics for individual consultation include course design and alignment, instructional strategies, assessment and feedback, instructional technologies, or topics from our workshops.
