Interim Grad Dean Candidate Presentations

Early Voting on Campus

UNC Charlotte is an early voting site for Mecklenburg County. Register and vote at the same time in Cone University Center, Room 111, through Saturday, November 5. Early voting hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Info Session re: Graduate Application Process and Employee Tuition Waiver

Graduate Admissions will host a Faculty and Staff Application Information Session on November 3 for employees to discuss the application process and tuition waiver benefits available to employees. Maryanne Maree-Sams and Ellie Ivey of Graduate Admissions will be on hand to answer questions about the application and admissions process. Jessica Kapota, Director for Learning and Organizational Development, will address the tuition waiver program available to qualified employees to cover tuition expenses for up to three courses per academic year. Honors Course Proposals 2023-2024

The Honors College is accepting course proposals for the 2023-24 academic year: HONR 3700 seminars, as well as critical thinking and local and globally-themed honors sections of courses (1500-level) for the revised general education offerings. LBST courses will be offered under the previous general education program. The Honors College is piloting two 2023 summer courses, one 3700 and one LBST or 1500-level course. We will offer up to six course planning grants of $500 for classes that meet one or more of three pedagogical needs: interdisciplinary inquiry; critical place-based pedagogy; or consortium-building in disciplinary honors. If you would like to apply to teach an honors course on the main campus or at The Dubois Center uptown, please complete this form. All course proposals will be considered for the planning grants. Application Date Extended for Spring Diversity Scholars Forum

The application date to enter research projects in the Spring Diversity Scholars Forum has been extended to December 16. The Graduate School is seeking to feature graduate student research related to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice. The Forum will provide a showcase for research on campus and in the greater Charlotte community. More information.

Center for Teaching and Learning Workshops

Teaching with Poll Everywhere
This workshop will introduce faculty/staff to Poll Everywhere, and how to use the student response software in classroom and other learning spaces. During the workshop participants will explore how to get registered and create polling content within Poll Everywhere. We will guide you on downloading your class roster from Canvas into Poll Everywhere and how to export grades from the polling responses into Canvas.

New Canvas Quizzing
This workshop will teach you the basics of creating quizzes in Canvas for assessments using the New Canvas Quizzing Tool. We will also show you how to migrate classic quizzes to new quizzes. We recommend it for anyone new to quizzing in Canvas or creating new quizzes from scratch.

Using Feedback to Improve Teaching and Learning
Providing students with clear feedback is integral to the teaching and learning process and can motivate and guide behavior change that translates into student success. Soliciting feedback from students allows faculty to make changes in their instructional strategies that also lead to student success. This workshop provides an overview of tools and strategies for giving and receiving feedback – both traditional and technology-based – that can be easily incorporated into any course. This workshop counts towards the Essentials of Teaching and Learning Certificate.

Focus on Mental Health

Mental Health First Aid
MHFA is an national public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses and substance use, builds understanding of their impact, and provides an overview of common supports. The certificate includes two hours of pre-work and six hours of instructor-led training.

Question, Persuade, Refer
QPR is a 90-minute training intended to foster a community of care by teaching individuals how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, including verbal, behavioral, and situational clues. Learn how to Question a person about suicidal thoughts, Persuade them to get help, and Refer them to campus and/or local resources.

Let’s Talk (for students only)
You may know students who would benefit from “Let’s Talk,” a brief, drop-in, and confidential problem-solving consultation for students with a CAPS team member. Visits are first come, first served. No appointment is necessary and the wait time is usually brief. This is not therapy and it is not designed for students who need urgent help.
